Officer Name and Details Handing Over the Evidence:
A requisition letter of FIR 11/ACD/2021 and CMR 101/21 dated 06/10/2021 at 10:00 AM was received from the Session Judge, High Court, Kolkata, West Bengal seeking fingerprint analysis of the submitted exhibit of Case No. 50/2021 dated 06/10/2021 to establish identity in a homicide case. One sealed parcel said to contain a piece of glass with latent fingerprint was received at Behala Police Station, Kolkata on 06/10/2021 for fingerprint analysis, and a case was registered on 05/10/2021 under File No. 11/ACD/2021.

The case was transferred to FSL Kolkata and assigned by the Senior Scientific Officer, Dr. Paromita Banerjee, Fingerprint Division for undertaking fingerprint analysis.

Summary of the Case:
Determination of latent fingerprint from the exhibit containing a glass piece and establishing the relation between the analyzed fingerprint and the accused’s fingerprint.

Introduction:
A homicide case was reported at 35/B Behala, Kolkata on 05/10/2021 at 09:15 AM of a woman at Ashapurna Girls PG by the flatmates at Room No. 4, 1st floor. The incident was reported to the Behala Police Station by the flatmates in the presence of the landlord of the PG at 09:30 AM.
The police arrived at the crime scene at 9:45 AM. A glass piece was located under the bed at the right-front corner limb of the bed, on which the body was found lying upside down with slit throat. The glass piece and the body along with the room were photographed. The glass piece was collected as evidence.

Material Object Received:

  1. As per the above requisition, the sealed parcel containing a piece of glass, was submitted at FSL by Mr. Rajen Das, Constable, C/209, Behala Police Station, Kolkata, West Bengal on 06/10/2021 under CMR 101/21. The material object along with the case file was received on 06/10/2021 for analysis and reporting.
  2. The details of the material object received and marked for analysis are as given below:
    • A white cloth covered sealed parcel bearing the seal impression FG labelled as “Exhibit 1”.
  3. The details of the material packed inside the seal are described below:
    • A piece of triangular transparent glass of thickness 3 mm, sides 3 cm, 5 cm, and 4 cm respectively with horizontal cracks and scratches and the latent fingerprint on the center, labelled as FIG12.

Purpose of Examination:
To determine if the fingerprint from the provided exhibit matches with the accused’s fingerprint.

Nature of Examination:
Fingerprint Analysis was carried out at FSL Kolkata, Fingerprint Division. The examination was carried out by:

  1. Collecting the latent fingerprint by applying cyanoacrylate followed by dusting the smooth and nonporous surface of glass with fingerprint powder, i.e., aluminium flake.
  2. After appearance of the fingerprint, they were photographed and then lifted from the surface with clear adhesive tape. The lifting tape is then placed on a latent lift card to preserve the print.
  3. Fingerprint of the accused was determined.

Result of Examination:
The result of the fingerprint analysis of “Exhibit 1” of FIG12 yields that the comparison of latent fingerprint from the glass piece and the accused’s fingerprint matches.

Conclusion:
Based on the examination and finding, it is concluded that the fingerprint from the provided sample FIG12 and the accused’s fingerprint matches.
